The governor presents his compliments to Count Montholon and begs to enclose to him [the] extract of a letter he received yesterday by the Vansittart. He regrets that the almost unprecedented length of that ship’s voyage (14 weeks) should have frustrated all the hope that might have perhaps been otherwise [deemed] of its contents affording any motive of consolation or of being in any degree whatsoever of avail.[^1]
