Sir,
I have had the honour of receiving your letter dated yesterday, covering some notes which you mention to have been charged to address to me, upon the subject of our conversation on the 27<sup>th</sup> inst.
I have found it necessary to return the same for the reason which will be found mentioned in the enclosed paper, but have been happy at the same time to refer to the assurance already given that the several matters therein spoken of, upon which you had before conferred with me, would be duly communicated to my government.
