avez 4 à 500 hommes à cheval.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Vous pouvez donc tenir
la campagne avec une division de 8 000 hommes.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Je n'ai pas besoin de
vous dire qu'il faut apporter une grande attention aux bataillons de
la Lippe et de Saxe, ces bataillons ont dû partir d'Iéna pour
Leipzig ; envoyez à leur rencontre. Il y manque des officiers
et des sous-officiers. Vous avez le pouvoir d'en prendre parmi les
français et les polonais qui parlent allemand ; vous avez carte
blanche à cet égard.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Le 13<sup>e</sup> de
hussards arrivera ici demain. Je le dirige sur Magdebourg. Ce
régiment est composé de toscans<sup>[^3]</sup>
qui ont le pied assez leste, il est fort de 4 à 500 hommes ;
c'est un régiment à réorganiser, le général Bourcier s'en
chargera. Vous pouvez y incorporer des chasseurs et des hussards
français en mettant après les italiens dont vous ne serez pas
satisfait ; mais il faudra faire cela sans que cela blesse les
régiments.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Je donne ordre au
général Dombrowski de former un corps volant de 8 bataillons,

au général Lemoine de former un petit corps d’observation à
Minden avec 6 bataillons de la division bis. Il réunira à lui tout
ce qui est en route pour se rendre à Magdebourg, 10 détachements
d’infanterie, 10 de cavalerie montée ou démontée, 10 des
convois d’artillerie, et avec cette colonne il se postera où les
circonstances l’exigeront.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Indépendamment de
votre général de division et de vos trois généraux de brigade,
j’envoie le général Girard à Magdebourg.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Comme vous ne devez
jamais sortir de la place, le général Girard prendra le
commandement des troupes qui devront sortir et se porter sur
différents points.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Il aura sous ses ordres
la brigade du général Lemoine, la division d’artillerie que vous
tirerez de votre garnison et le corps du général Dombrowski.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Vous organiserez les

partagée en 3 brigades et vous lui organiserez 2 batteries
d’artillerie.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">le 5<sup>e</sup>
bataillon du 134<sup>e</sup>, une compagnie de dépôt de chacun des
bataillons <i>bis</i>, ainsi que les 4 bataillons provisoires,
la cavalerie à pied, les hommes de l’artillerie, un bataillon
westphalien, un bataillon de saxe, un bataillon d’Anhalt, la moitié
du bataillon croate ( car il ne faudra composer le bataillon qui est
destiné à la division active que de 5 à 600 hommes en bon
état ), vous fournirons toujours 6 000 hommes environ qui vous
resterons pour la garde de Magdebourg.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Le général Girard
pourra donc se placer en avant de Magdebourg avec les 9 000 hommes
tirés de cette place, se réunir au corps du général Dombrowski
qui est de 5 000 hommes environ, réunis ainsi 14 à
15 000 hommes, 2 régiments de cavalerie, une
trentaine de pièces de canon, et manœuvrant selon les
circonstances, soit pour protéger le pays, soit pour réunir les
provinces lettones au corps du duc de Reggio.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Le général Dombrowski
doit d’abord réunir tout son corps en avant de Wittenberg :
mais à mesure que le duc de Reggio et le prince d’Eckmühl se
rapprocheront de Berlin, l’ennemi sentira la nécessité de
s’affaiblir devant Magdebourg, et alors le général Girard
manœuvrera de manière à se réunir au général Dombrowski, ce qui
rendra son corps assez fort pour entreprendre ces opérations.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Si par des mouvements
inattendus, le général Girard était appelé sur la rive gauche, il
le combinerait avec le général Lemoine et n’en pourrait pas moins
envoyer ses ordres au général Dombrowski par la rive gauche.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Il est bien important
de profiter du peu de moments qui restent pour nous envoyer les
farines et les biscuits que vous devez faire partir. Toutefois
n’envoyer rien, car il serait désagréable de commencer la
campagne par des convois enlevés.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Réorganisez vos vivres
et faites faire des moutures à force ; vous en pensiez avoir
trop de farine.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Envoyez-moi par le
retour de mon officier d’ordonnance, votre situation en vivres et
en munitions de guerre de toutes espèces, et faites-moi connaître
si vous croyez pouvoir organiser 2 batteries à pied et une à
cheval, ce qui avec l’artillerie du général Dombrowski fera au
corps du général Girard deux batteries à cheval et deux batteries
à pied, ou 28 pièces de canon. Une batterie d’artillerie à
cheval qui se dirigerait sur Hambourg a du se détourner d’Osnabrück
pour se rendre à Magdebourg. Elle ne devrait pas être éloignée,
vous pouvez la garder.<sup>[^4]</sup></p>
