Sorbier, je désire que vous me présentiez demain l'état détaillé
de l'armement et approvisionnement actuel de Wittenberg, et le projet
d'armement pour cette place<sup>[^1]</sup>,
d'après les données suivantes, pour la colonne du nécessaire, et
afin que demain à midi je puisse donner tous les ordres à ce sujet

</dd></dl><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">En outre, je veux avoir
dans cette place, comme approvisionnement de réserve, 20 mille
coups de canon de campagne et 2 millions de cartouches
d'infanterie.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Vous ferez tirer les
poudres d'Erfurt ; le ministre de la Guerre en a annoncé 60 mille
kg. en mouvement sur cette place. Vous pourrez diriger ces munitions
sur Wittenberg.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Vous compterez comme
faisant partie de l'équipage de campagne toutes les pièces de
bataille qui se trouvent dans cette place, quand bien même vous ne
vous en serviriez pas pour la formation actuelle des batteries. Il
est bon d'y avoir une douzaine de pièces disponibles, et que l'on
pourrait en tirer, au besoin, soit pour donner à des corps qui
seraient sans artillerie, soit pour faire escorter des convois. C'est
d'ailleurs une réserve que l'on pourrait porter sur le point de
l'Elbe où il serait nécessaire. Comme un mouvement de matériel de
Torgau à Wittenberg est facile à exécuter, il faudra prendre dans
cette première place la plus grande partie du matériel nécessaire
à l'armement de Wittenberg, et ne prendre à Magdebourg que le moins
possible d'objets d'artillerie.<sup>[^2]</sup></p><h3 data-kind="letter-signature" style="text-align: right; font-size: 1em; font-weight: normal">Napoléon</h3>
[^1]: L’empereur qui a décidé de fixer sa ligne d’opérations sur l’Elbe s’emploie pendant la suspension d’armes à en fortifier les points principaux des montagnes de Bohême jusqu’à Hambourg. Les places fortes de Kœnigstein, Lilienstein, Dresde, Torgau, Wittenberg, Magdebourg et Hambourg sont ainsi armés et approvisionnés pour servir éventuellement d’appuis à sa masse de manœuvre principale établie en Saxe.
