habiller : il faudrait calculer sur 12 000 hommes ;
mais on m'assure que 7 000 habits suffiront. Voyez les
fournisseurs du roi de Saxe, afin de faire fournir, à Dresde ou à
Gœrlitz, les draps nécessaires, et de faire confectionner les
habits. Écrivez-en au prince Poniatowski, afin qu'il vous fasse
connaître les dispositions qu'il aurait prises pour l'habillement de
son corps. Il faut que cela soit poussé avec une grande activité,
pour qu'au 10 juillet tout ce corps se trouve habillé et
enharnaché.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Demandez à Erfurt
l'état de situation des régiments polonais qui s'y trouvent,
provenant de la garnison de Spandau ; demandez également l'état des
troupes polonaises qui sont à Wittenberg. Il me semble qu'il
faudrait réduire chaque régiment à deux bataillons, ce qui ne
ferait que des bataillons de 400 hommes et des compagnies de
60 hommes. Cela serait faible, mais cela pourrait se manœuvrer
et emploierait la plupart des officiers. Joint au régiment qu'a le
général Dombrowski, qui a aussi deux bataillons, cela ferait dix
régiments ou vingt bataillons. On recruterait quelques prisonniers
et quelques hommes qu'on pourrait trouver pour former
10 000 hommes, ce qui ferait une bonne division
d'infanterie. Afin d'employer tous les généraux que le prince
Poniatowski peut avoir dans son corps, ces vingt bataillons seraient
formés en deux divisions et cinq brigades, chacune de quatre
bataillons, la 1<sup>re</sup> division étant de trois brigades
et la 2<sup>e</sup> de deux. Écrivez en France pour savoir si
au nombre des prisonniers il se trouve des Polonais.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">On donnera

en a vingt ; ce serait donc vingt-quatre pièces à lui fournir.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Les seize régiments de
cavalerie seraient joints aux deux régiments du général
Dombrowski, et réduits à seize ; chaque régiment de quatre
compagnies et chaque compagnie de 100 hommes, ce qui met le
régiment à 400 hommes. Ces seize régiments formeront deux
divisions, chacune de deux brigades ; chaque brigade de quatre
régiments ou 1 600 hommes, et chaque division de huit
régiments ou 3 200 hommes. Une batterie d'artillerie à

prononcer définitivement, les observations du prince Poniatowski et
le projet de répartition de ses généraux et officiers dans les
cadres. Vous lui ferez observer que ces bataillons sont bien faibles,
ainsi que les brigades et les divisions ; mais que je suppose qu'il a
un grand nombre de généraux et d'officiers supérieurs, ce qui rend
ces cadres nécessaires pour les employer. Il y aura par division un
commissaire des guerres. Une compagnie de gendarmerie sera formée de
tous les gendarmes. Quant aux officiers qui resteraient sans être
placés d'après cette nouvelle organisation, s'ils étaient plus de
200, on pourrait en former un escadron de gardes d'honneur de deux ou
trois compagnies, pour en disposer au besoin et à mesure que les
cadres s'augmenteraient. Aussitôt que nous serons dans le pays, ces
vingt bataillons pourront être portés à 16 000 hommes,
et ensuite on pourra former les 3<sup>es</sup> bataillons de ces
régiments, ce qui fera encore 8 000 hommes.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Moyennant ces
dispositions, les cadres des régiments qui étaient à Spandau et
qui sont à Wittenberg, ainsi que ceux de la légion de la Vistule,
se trouveraient fondus dans ce corps. La solde, l'équipement,
l'habillement, le harnachement, l'achat des chevaux d'artillerie et
de remonte pour la cavalerie de ce corps, tout cela sera aux frais de
votre département. Vous pourrez vous servir du baron Bignon pour
diriger tous les détails ; mais prenez toutes les mesures
nécessaires pour assurer l'habillement, le harnachement et l'achat
des chevaux d'artillerie, et enfin pour mettre ce corps complètement
en état. Je suppose que, dans une ville comme Dresde, il sera facile
de faire deux cents habits par jour.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Il faudra aussi qu'il
soit organisé dans ce corps une compagnie d'équipages militaires de
