maréchal Bessières, commandant la Garde impériale</span></h1><h2 data-kind="letter-context;" style="text-align: right; font-size: 1em; font-weight: normal">Paris, 10 mars 1812</h2><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Mon cousin, donnez
ordre que la 3<sup>e</sup> division de la Garde, composée des trois
régiments de la vieille Garde, parte de Metz <i>pour Mayence</i>,
savoir : le 3<sup>e</sup> régiment de grenadiers, le 13 ; le 2<sup>e</sup>
de chasseurs et le 2<sup>e</sup> de grenadiers, <i>le 14 ou le 15</i>.
Ces régiments ne séjourneront qu'un jour à Metz. La division
d'ambulances avec <i>son</i> matériel, une compagnie de sapeurs, une
batterie d'artillerie servie par les canonniers de la jeune Garde et
deux batteries d'artillerie à pied, formant seize pièces de canon,
avec seize caissons d'infanterie et leur approvisionnement, partiront
également de Metz, successivement, pour Mayence. Les trois régiments
de cavalerie partis de Paris ne feront qu'un séjour à Metz et
continueront leur route sur Mayence. Toute l'artillerie de la réserve
de la Garde marchera avec les grenadiers, les chasseurs et les
dragons. Enfin, le parc d'artillerie de la Garde, y compris la
réserve de la Garde, ainsi que le parc du génie, les boulangers et
les administrations, se mettront également en marche le 15 pour
Mayence.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Donnez ordre au général
Walther<sup>[^1]</sup>
de se rendre à Mayence pour prendre le commandement de la cavalerie,
et de l'artillerie légère qui y sera attachée. Faites partir,
demain, un bataillon de chasseurs, composé de 800 hommes, et un
bataillon de 800 grenadiers, sous les ordres d'un major. Vous
choisirez les hommes les plus fatigués ou que le voyage en
poste incommoderait davantage. Les ambulances, les caissons des deux
régiments de grenadiers et de chasseurs restant, les chevaux et
bagages des officiers des corps qui doivent partir en poste, et ce
qui reste des administrations, partiront avec ces deux bataillons ;
de sorte qu'il ne reste que 1 600 hommes de toute la
vieille Garde, lesquels pourront se porter en poste sur l'Elbe,
c'est-à-dire en quinze jours.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Ainsi ma Garde sera

division sera commandée par le général de division Roguet ;
la 3<sup>e</sup> division, ou division de vieille Garde, sera
commandée par le général Curial. Vous me présenterez les
adjudants généraux de la Garde qui doivent être employés dans ces
divisions.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm"><br/>
</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Artillerie :
l'artillerie se compose,</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">1° De quatre
compagnies de régiment : une compagnie de huit pièces sera attachée
à la division Delaborde<sup>[^2]</sup> ;
une compagnie de huit pièces à la division Roguet ; une de
huit pièces aux chasseurs, et une de huit pièces aux grenadiers,
formant seize pièces pour la 3<sup>e</sup> division.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">2° Il y aura attachées
à la 1<sup>re</sup> division deux batteries d'artillerie à pied
formant seize pièces de la réserve attachée à la Garde ; à
la 2<sup>e</sup> division, deux batteries d'artillerie de seize
pièces de la réserve attachée à la Garde ; à la 3<sup>e</sup>
division, deux batteries ou seize pièces servies par la Garde ;
à la cavalerie, deux batteries à cheval de la Garde formant douze
pièces ; à la réserve, marchant avec le parc, savoir deux
batteries d'artillerie à cheval de la Garde, douze pièces ;
quatre batteries d'artillerie à cheval de la ligne, vingt-quatre
pièces ; deux batteries de pièces de 12 de la ligne attachées
à la Garde, seize pièces ; deux batteries de pièces de 12 de
la Garde, seize pièces ; deux batteries d'artillerie à pied de
la Garde, seize pièces. Les cent soixante et seize pièces de la
Garde seront donc réparties comme il suit, savoir : vingt-quatre
pièces à la 1<sup>re</sup> division ; vingt-quatre pièces à
la 2<sup>e</sup> division ; trente-deux pièces à la 3<sup>e</sup>
division ; douze pièces à la cavalerie ;
quatre-vingt-quatre pièces à la réserve ; total, cent
soixante seize pièces.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Chaque pièce de canon
aura aux divisions un approvisionnement complet ; le double
approvisionnement sera avec la réserve au parc. Chaque division aura
ses seize caissons ; les autres caissons seront au parc.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Génie : le génie se
compose des compagnies de sapeurs. Une de celles qui sont à Metz
doit avoir reçu l'ordre de partir avec la 1<sup>re</sup> division.
Une compagnie sera attachée à la 2<sup>e</sup> division ; une
compagnie sera attachée à la 3<sup>e</sup> division ; une
compagnie sera attachée au parc avec des pontonniers, mineurs et
ouvriers, ainsi que la compagnie du grand-duché de Berg, avec ses
pontonniers et avec les marins.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Il faut que les états
de situation de la Garde me soient désormais présentés dans cette
forme. On y portera ce qui existe et ce qui manque. Chaque division
aura ses ambulances et la partie des administrations qui lui est
nécessaire ; le reste sera au parc avec l'ordonnateur.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Donnez ordre que la
compagnie de marins et tout ce qui peut partir partent demain.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">J'approuve l'idée de
former aux grenadiers et aux chasseurs une 9<sup>e</sup> compagnie
pour la garde de Paris et pour faire le service auprès de
l'Impératrice et du roi de Rome. On composera, chacune de ces deux
9<sup>es</sup> compagnies, des hommes malingres sortant des
