cousin, j’ai reçu l’état de situation des troupes espagnoles.
Voici la partie qui vous concerne. Il y a dans la Galice et les
Asturies 5 000 hommes effectifs de troupes de ligne. Il y a dans
la Galice 7 600 hommes de garde-côtes ou milices, et dans les
Asturies 1 100 hommes de milice. Il y a dans la Castille-Vieille, à
Burgos, etc., 280 hommes de milice et 300 hommes de cavalerie. Il y a

ces 5 000 hommes composent 16 ou 17 bataillons. Il est probable
qu’il y a au moins par bataillon 100 hommes <i>de ligne</i>,
d’hommes à réformer, d’ouvriers etc. ; il ne resterait
donc plus d’effectif que 3 400 hommes ; en ôtant le sixième
pour la différence de l’effectif au présent sous les armes, cela
ne ferait guère que 2 800 à 2 900 hommes.</p><p>La

etc., restent 7 000 hommes ; et en ôtant le sixième,
restent 5 800 hommes.</p><p>Dans
les Asturies, à Gijón, le bataillon provincial d’Oviedo, 590 ;
à Santander, le bataillon provincial de Laredo, 570 hommes.</p><p>Prenez
des renseignements pour savoir de combien ces corps devraient être
composés au complet, s’ils sont exercés, combien d’hommes ils
peuvent mettre en campagne. À la manière dont ils sont répartis,
ils me paraissent être des garde-côtes. Je ne pense donc pas qu’en
dégarnissant toute la Galice, les Asturies, la Biscaye, la
Vieille-Castille, le royaume de Léon, l’ennemi pût vous opposer
